SHUHEI YOSHIDA: I was
responsible for the team for the very first Gran Turismo as a
coproducer with Kazunori. He’s passionate. I’d call him the ultimate
optimist. He had the always we-can-do-it
kind of mentality. He pushed the team and the
members at the very, very last minute, and he was
very, very good at motivating and convincing them that
something he set out as a very high-level target to make them
believe that it’s achievable. So that produced really amazing
graphics on PlayStation 1. SHUHEI YOSHIDA: I think the size
and scale of development has totally changed. The philosophy behind making a
Gran Turismo game has not changed. You know, it’s always consistent
that the ultimate pursuit of recreating this car that you
drive digitally. But because of the capability of
the hardware and the system, The teams have put a lot more
efforts to actually really capture everything, not just
cars but the tracks, how the light behaves in the
change of weather. It’s amazing how much work, how much data the team put into
this one project. SHUHEI YOSHIDA: Yamauchi-san’s
use of the word “sport” actually means everybody plays
some kind of sport. So he liked to make the racing
very accessible to everyone like people enjoy sport.
